The Guild of Cornish Hedgers invites anyone who wants to become a professional Cornish hedger to apply for one of the Guild's 40 apprentice bursaries (supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund) to learn this ancient and endangered craft.

Each apprenticeship is for fifty working days (not less than two days a week) on a one-to-one basis with a chosen/approved professional hedger, followed later by the Lantra-approved practical test. No wages are paid but a HLF bursary of £1500 is payable in three equal parts subject to satisfactory progress.
The key points of selection are motivation, physical and mental ability to handle stone, the preference for working alone out of doors, an interest in the historical and environmental aspects of Cornish hedges and a real intention to learn and practice this traditional craftman's skill as a professional Cornish hedger.
Detailed information relating to Cornish hedges is available free elsewhere on this website.
